Day 31 – Tuckertown, Rhode Island

Sheesh, what a weird day!  Don was up before six, and was dressed and ready to go before seven.  I erroneously thought that we were in store for an early walk, and stood ready to accompany him, but he got into the truck and hauled out of here!  Geri was up early, too, and she explained to me that Don had something to do for Joanne over at her house, and he had to be there early to do it.  A little later, she took me for a short walk, which was OK, but nothing like the far-ranging expeditions that Don and I regularly do.

We hung around the coach all morning, and Geri got a little nap in; a little after noon, Don showed up and we loaded into the truck and went over to Joanne’s.  She was gone on her trip to West Point for a golf tournament, and it turns out that Don had been working with the pool contractor to install the cover for the pool.  He was also trying to make sense of the system that controls the pool chemistry, calling the contractor responsible for it several times to get advice on what to do.  He seemed to be at his wit’s end trying to make sense of it, and wound up telling Geri that it was the most user-unfriendly control system he had ever seen.  He said that the guy who set it up seems to agree with him.  I guess he’ll be fighting it again tomorrow.

Geri and Don eventually headed out to do some shopping, leaving Gracie and I to catch up on our nap time.  They didn’t get back until it was time for our dinner, and we hurried through it so that we could get loaded into the truck and back to the coach before the big thunderstorm hit.  Geri had wanted to stay at the house during the storm, but Don said we should have a backup generator available in case the storm knocks out the power.  Gracie came with us, and was really interested in the coach, particularly my toy box.  She found one of my old bones in there, and lit into it like it was fresh out of the meat market.  She’s really happy to be with us, and we’re all enjoying having her as a guest.

The storm came through and knocked out the TV reception, but the power stayed on.  Geri rigged up her cell phone to act as a radio, so they had some entertainment while the TV was off.  Don had gotten a new gizmo for his computer when they were out shopping, and he was busy installing it, hoping to make his internet reception better.  Dinner was a real bust, with Don fixing a few little Chinese tidbits for himself, and Geri going hungry.  Well, not really, she found a few snacks for herself.  We got the blog put together a little late, and turned in for a good night’s sleep.  Toodle-oo, see ya tomorrow!
