Day 1 – Las Vegas!

A big Golden howdy to all my friends!  Your favorite DogBlogger has returned to keep you up to date on my latest excursion across our great country, including my observations on the sometimes questionable activities of my travelling partners, Geri and Don.  Don’t get me wrong, I really love these people; they are always concerned for my welfare, try hard to keep me entertained, and do their best to keep me fairly well fed.  But sometimes I just don’t understand some of the things they do.  Well, more on that later.

Our gang has embarked on a multi-month trek across the USA, sort of like what we did a couple of years ago, and very like the one six years ago, when I had Buddy for a travelling companion.  He sure taught me a lot about how to travel comfortably, and we all wish he was still with us.  Like in 2005, we have a wedding that Geri and Don are going to attend all the way over in New York, early in June, so we’ve gotten a good start on what we all hope to be a fun, leisurely trip through some places we haven’t been before.  We’re also planning to spend some time with the Boston Yokums, and I’m really excited about reuniting with my pal Andrea again; we developed a strong friendship when we visited six years ago, and I hope she still likes me after all these years.  We’re going to visit our friends Buzz and Joanne in Rhode Island, and I think I’ll be staying there while Geri and Don go to the wedding.  When we were there in 2005, they belonged to a very nice and smart black Labrador named Sammy, who I really enjoyed visiting and playing with.  I understand that Sammy graduated to where all dogs go a year or so ago, and they now have another Lab, a lady by name of Gracie, as their housemate.  I’m really looking forward to meeting her!

I know that I’ve mentioned in past blogs my adoration for the lady across the street from us, who Geri and Don refer to as “The Temptress”; well, she and her husband Joe are here in Vegas, and I’m hoping that we have an opportunity to get together, particularly if she’s carrying some of those wonderful doggie treats that she seems to grow in her pockets!  And grandkids Genevieve and Matthew, with sweetie Brittany and GGKids Matthew and Kiera are here, so we hope to have some really fun reunions!  Geri and Don are hoping to see one of the shows on “The Strip”, but they tell me there aren’t any good dog shows that have a bunch of bitches frolicking on stage, so I guess I won’t be going.

Don has asked me to tell you about his problems on the first leg of the trip, so I guess I should.  To start with, as he was hooking up the truck to the tow bar in Ventura, he found that his “Brake Buddy”, a unit that works the brakes in the truck, wasn’t getting any power.  He checked all the fuses, didn’t find a problem, and doggedly determined to proceed without the assistance of the truck brakes.  Then, just after we turned the corner to head up Ashwood, he didn’t slow down enough for the big dip in the street, and we heard a loud scrape; we found out later that it was our retracting step that took the impact, bending one of its supports.  So now we have half a step!

Well, it’s getting a bit late now, and I think my gang wants to get to bed a little early tonight, so I’ll sign off.  But I really want you to know how much I enjoy giving you these updates on our travels, and I hope you enjoy reading them!  If you do, please sign up as a follower of the blog, so’s I know who I’m talking to!  Sayonara till tomorra!
