Day 3 – Las Vegas

Another morning walk in the park, with lots of dogs with their humans, most of them very sociable and friendly.  We spent a lot of time with a young lady and her very nice smaller dog, who was five years old but quite mature.  Don was particularly encouraging of our socializing, and even took some pictures.  Don told me one time when we were talking about people who play golf that one of his favorite authors referred to the game as “A good walk, wasted.”  This morning’s walk was very good, and not a waste at all.  And, like yesterday, it was the high point of my day.

Back at the rig, Don busied himself with cleaning the front of the coach, mumbling about how you would never know that it had been washed just about a week ago.  He fished out the little TV set that he had stashed in his closet and set it up outside, hoping to be able to watch a little TV while sitting out in the cool of the evening.  Unfortunately, it became evident that he had neglected to bring the remote control for the set with him, and the power switch on that set has been broken for years, and only works with the remote.  So much for TVing on the patio.  He was soon distracted from this dismal situation by the arrival of the RV Doctor, the guy he arranged to work on the busted step.  The Doctor assessed the situation, under my close supervision, went back to his truck and came back with a huge hammer.  He slid under the rig and started banging on the bent pieces of the step, creating such an alarming noise that I got a little agitated and gravitated closer to Don for protection.  He had the thing working in about five minutes.  Don didn’t want to lose the advantage of having this highly skilled repair person at hand, so he asked if he could diagnose the source of a small water leak under the refrigerator.  Sure enough, another five minutes later, he had found the culprit, a small tube that fed the icemaker.  He had to go back to his shop to get some new tubing, but by noon, it was all fixed!

To celebrate the completion of the maintenance list, Geri and Don had to go shopping, of course.  As it was way too hot out for me to accompany them in the truck, I was left to do some much needed napping in air conditioned comfort.  They returned a few hours later with bags of groceries, soda, and new glasses for Don purchased at the 99 cent store.  Geri took me out for an excursion on the hot pavement to the grassy area at the gate, where I was again beset by the same antagonistic mocker that pestered me yesterday.  I have to admire his desire to protect his little family, I don’t think I could be that brave against a beast that weighed in at about a thousand times my weight.

Not too long after our return to the rig, I heard a knock on the door, and rushed to defend us against the interloper, barking furiously at whoever might be attempting to enter.  Turned out to be Granddaughter Genevieve, come to visit us and go to dinner with Geri and Don.  I have to say, she is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and even more beautiful than I am.  That’s saying a lot!  They took off with her, and returned a couple of hours later carrying bags of leftover Thai food and exclaiming over how good it had been.  Don told me that it was way too spicy for me, so I wouldn’t have the opportunity to share in their good fortune.

So, Don and I worked on putting the blog together; when I asked him about the photos he had promised, he pointed out that most of the day’s activities had involved maintenance, so I shouldn’t be surprised at the subject matter of most of the pictures.   I wasn’t surprised, I was shocked.  Believe me, folks, we’re going to do better than this in the future.  But for now, all I can say is bye bye for today, and hope we can have something more exciting for you tomorrow!
