Day 2 – Las Vegas

Well, I was very pleased when Don loaded me into the truck this morning and took me for a ride over to the park that we usually visit when we’re in town.  It’s a big park, with very nice grass, great for rolling.  We did a lap around the park, met a few dogs and people, most enjoyable.  That turned out to be the high point of my day.

I should have remembered that the second day out on one of these trips is when Geri and Don try to fix all the problems that crop up during the first day’s run, and that doesn’t leave any time for fun stuff.  Geri was occupied trying to get her new phone to work with her iPad, and not having much success.  Don determined that our faithful old BrakeBuddy was down for the count, and had to be replaced.  He used up a lot of the day searching the net for a replacement, after he lined up a repair service to fix the busted step tomorrow.  They finally headed out in the truck to the local Verizon office, where they got some lessons on what they could and couldn’t do with the new phone, and I guess that’s a good thing.

Don took me out for my afternoon stroll, and, after spending the day in our air conditioned dwelling, I found it to be kinda hot outside.  We marched out to the big grassy area just outside the gate, where we can wander freely and take care of personal business.  One of the attractions in this area is the guard shack, where the guys on duty always have a good supply of treats for well-behaved dogs.  For some unknown reason, Don was determined to keep me well away from the guards and their treats; like I said yesterday, sometimes I don’t really understand the reasoning behind their behavior.  So, I went about my business, doing some rolling and sniffing, until I came under direct attack!  A male mockingbird dive bombed me from the rear and pecked me on the rump!  I mean, it didn’t really hurt, but it sort of surprised me.  The bird took another pass at me from the front, and zoomed right over my head, just inches away.  About that time a lady showed up with two little poodle dogs, and Don warned her about the killer mocker that was attacking me.  The littlest poodle, who was only a few months old, was small enough that the bird might have knocked him over.  But the mocker was only interested in me, and kept buzzing around and occasionally pecking me on the behind.  Don said that he probably had a nest nearby with a mate and babies, and he was doing what he could to protect it from me, the big marauder dog.  Well, OK, no harm done.

When we got back to the rig, we found that Geri hadn’t returned from her shopping expedition yet, so we watched a little TV and started work on the blog.  Geri finally showed up with the results of her multi-store expedition, a pair of shoes, which Don says are number 73 in her collection.  The rest of his remark didn’t make any sense to me, as I have never heard of Imelda Marcos.  He cooked up a very nice dinner of chicken ravioli and some veggies, resulting in some good plates for me, for which I was thankful, though I noted that dinner was really running late tonight.  I also told Don that he’d better start coming up with some photos of something to dress up the blog, and he promised that he would get on it tomorrow.  I know he’ll come through.

Don read me some emails from our friends who have contacted us to wish us well on the road, and I want to thank them for their good wishes.  Let me assure you that I keep a close eye on Don’s driving, and have rarely had any concerns.  Geri wants to add that I’m speaking only for myself.   Hope tomorrow has a little more excitement.  G’nite, all!

  1. Dee Bee,
Could you ask Don to post a picture of the motorhome so I can show my friends what you're traveling accommodations look like?
    Hope you're having fun.
